About Eagles Fly for Leukemia
Making a Difference in the Lives of Children and their Families
Seven-year-old Amanda was diagnosed with Stage IV Neuroblastoma in June of 2001. Living at home with her mother and 3 siblings, Amanda was a typical first grader, enjoying her friends and dreaming of her future.
Upon Amanda's diagnosis, her mother had to quit her job, in order to provide the care and support that Amanda and her siblings both demanded and deserved. Amanda's father had died in 1997, and her mother was now confronted with the stresses of caring for a sick child, supporting the other children, and keeping their home in financial order. Seeing the family was facing certain financial crisis, her hospital social worker turned to Eagles Fly for Leukemia Family Support Fund.
Thanks to Eagles Fly for Leukemia, Amanda's mother was able to continue to pay the mortgage on their suburban Philadelphia home, as well as keep all utility payments up to date, while planning for her return to part-time work.
Amanda has since returned to the familiar security of her home, where she shares a room with her sister, feeds her fish every day, and continues to dream of her future.
With your help, Eagles Fly for Leukemia Family Support Fund can continue to support families like Amanda's, allowing the parents to focus on what is truly important- their child's treatment and recovery.
