Dick & Carol Vermeil named Honorary Chairpersons of

2008 Bert Bell Memorial Dinner

Philadelphia, PA.

Eagles Fly for Leukemia is pleased to announce that former Philadelphia Eagles coach, Dick Vermeil and his wife Carol have agreed to serve as the honorary chairpersons of the 2008 Bert Bell Memorial Award Dinner, which will be held in November.    Dick Vermeil, who coached the Eagles from 1976-1982, led the St. Louis Rams to their first Super Bowl victory in Super Bowl XXXIV.  He was twice named NFL Coach of the Year.  The Vermeils, who were among the first supporters of Eagles Fly for Leukemia, have returned to the Philadelphia area and will once again assist the charity in its mission to eradicate childhood leukemia and other cancers.  They recently presented Eagles Fly for Leukemia with a donation of $10,000.

The Bert Bell Memorial Award is presented annually to an individual who has significantly contributed to the success of the National Football League.  The Bert Bell Memorial Award Dinner also recognizes three Philadelphia Eagles for their commitment and work within the community as well as their ability to overcome major obstacles and succeed.

Founded more than thirty years ago, Eagles Fly for Leukemia supports pediatric cancer research at Philadelphia area hospitals.  All proceeds from the dinner will benefit Eagles Fly for Leukemia.  Tickets and sponsorships are still available.

Pennies From Heaven Land In Pot For Leukemia Research
Pennies-Group-MR.jpgHaverford High School's senior class were raising money to off set the cost of their own proms, yearbooks and other graduation events, but they never forgot to help others along with way. The class runs Mr. Haverford every year - an event that spoofs a beauty contest - and this year the nearly $700 in pennies collected, many of them in contestant Tom Brennans's name, were donated to Eagles Fly, the football team's fund raising project. Presenting the check to Eagles Fly representative are class officers (from left) Tom Fink, Evan Kirshner, Dorie Abel, David Baker, Mr. Haverford contestant Tom Brennan holds the check, Class President Marissa Barnathan, Josh Uhr and Gabby Wright. Brennan may not have been named Mr. Haverford, but he managed to win in a very rewarding way. Tickets and sponsorships are still available.
